Building Disability Confidence: Empowering Managers to Lead with Inclusion

On 8th January 2026, the Pakistan Business and Disability Network (PBDN), in collaboration with Sightsavers, brought the conversation on disability inclusion to the heart of Pakistan’s digital banking sector through an engaging, full-day Disability Confidence Training at Raqami Islamic Digital Bank.

From senior leadership to line managers and operational staff, participants came together for an interactive session focused on transforming awareness into action. The objective was clear, move beyond theory and build the confidence, understanding, and practical skills needed to create an inclusive workplace where persons with disabilities can thrive.

The training began by setting the broader context. Drawing on global insights from the World Health Organization and national data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, participants reflected on the scale of disability within society and the workforce. The message was powerful: Disability inclusion is not a marginal issue, it is a mainstream business priority.

Through dynamic discussions and scenario-based activities, participants explored how traditional perceptions of disability often limit opportunity. The session challenged these assumptions and introduced a more progressive, rights-based perspective—one that views persons with disabilities as equal contributors whose potential can be unlocked when barriers are removed.

A particularly engaging segment focused on workplace culture and communication. Participants examined how everyday language, unconscious bias, and organizational systems can either foster belonging or unintentionally exclude. Small but meaningful shifts in mindset and terminology were highlighted as essential steps toward building a respectful and inclusive work environment.

The energy in the room reflected genuine commitment. Leaders openly discussed practical steps to strengthen inclusive recruitment practices, improve accessibility, and cultivate a culture of confidence across teams.

The session reflected Raqami Islamic Digital Bank’s growing commitment to embedding disability inclusion within its workplace culture. With increased awareness among leadership and staff, the Bank is taking meaningful steps toward becoming a disability-confident employer in Pakistan’s evolving financial sector.
