Recognising Inclusion, Inspiring Action: Together for an Inclusive Workforce

The Pakistan Business and Disability Network (PBDN), with the support of EFP, ILO, GIZ, and Sightsavers, effectively organised the National Dialogue on Disability Inclusion and the 2nd EFP Disability Inclusion Recognition Awards. This flagship event marked a pivotal milestone in Pakistan’s journey toward building inclusive workplaces, bringing together more than 200 participants from the private sector, government, civil society, academia, and organisations of persons with disabilities (OPDs).

The National Dialogue created a dynamic space for exchange, learning, and collaboration, aiming to strengthen the business case for disability-inclusive employment. Discussions throughout the day focused on the evolving corporate role in promoting accessible and inclusive work environments, legal and policy frameworks, and the ethical imperative of inclusion. Senior leaders from both multinational and national companies shared success stories, highlighting practical strategies that have enabled persons with disabilities to thrive in diverse workplace settings.

Through this event, we celebrate not only achievements but also the collective commitment of all stakeholders to break down barriers and ensure that persons with disabilities are given equal opportunities to participate and contribute.

A key outcome of the dialogue was the recognition that disability inclusion is no longer just a corporate responsibility—it is fast becoming a business imperative. The discussions highlighted several critical takeaways:

  • Empowering employers with the right knowledge and tools is critical to building the confidence needed for sustainable and impactful disability inclusion across industries.
  • Policies and frameworks alone are insufficient; meaningful inclusion requires proactive business leadership, tangible action, and a fundamental shift in workplace mindsets.
  • Transformational change demands collective effort, collaboration between the private sector, government, organisations of persons with disabilities (OPDs), and development partners is essential to break down systemic barriers and create equitable access to employment opportunities.

One of the most inspiring moments of the day was the Disability Inclusion Recognition Awards ceremony. Now in its second edition, the awards acknowledged over 30 organizations for their outstanding efforts in creating accessible workplaces, developing inclusive recruitment practices, and promoting the economic empowerment of persons with disabilities. These recognitions are more than symbolic; they demonstrate a tangible shift in corporate culture, where inclusion is no longer a choice but a strategic priority.

In his remarks, Mr. Feroze Alam, Vice President of EFP-PBDN, emphasized the importance of sustained partnerships and continued dialogue and said, “Through this event, we celebrate not only achievements but also the collective commitment of all stakeholders to break down barriers and ensure that persons with disabilities are given equal opportunities to participate and contribute.”

PBDN extends heartfelt gratitude to all speakers, partners, and participants for their unwavering support and commitment. The success of this national dialogue and awards ceremony reflects the growing momentum of the disability inclusion movement in Pakistan.
